St James's Park is the oldest of the 8 Royal Parks in London and is surrounded by 3 palaces. The most ancient is the palace of Westminster, which has now become the Houses of Parliament, St James's Palace and last but not least of course, the best known, Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the Queen.
It is 23-hectare park in the City of Westminster, central London visited by millions of Londoners and tourists every year. The park lies at the southernmost tip of the St James's area, which was named after a leper hospital dedicated to St James the Less.
It is a tranquil place where you can relax in a deckchair and forget the world. The flower beds and shrubberies are cherished by visitors throughout the year.
St James's Park has been at the centre of the country's royal and ceremonial life for more than four hundred years. Royal ambitions and national events have shaped many of the features in the park. It is home to the The Mall and Horse Guards Parade, and provides the setting for spectacular pageants such as the annual Trooping the Colour.
